Creating Plan Snapshots (D)

Plan Snapshots are used to display multiple entities (e.g. Lots, Test Requests, Photos etc.) on a single Plan. Once created, the Plan Snapshot will be accessible from the Related Items of any entity linked to the Plan Snapshot.

For example, a Plan Snapshot may be setup to display all subbase Lots in an area, along with locations of Test Requests and Photos.

In this guide, we'll demonstrate how to:

Create a Plan Snapshot

1. From the Lot Register, select a Lot/s and click Show on Pan in the Spatial tab. Select a Plan, then Lot/s will be presented on that Plan:

2. Use the Find by map function to define a search area where Subbase Lots are located - close loop by clicking back on the starting point. Or, use the Find by page(s) function to search an entire page.

In the Find by map popup, we'll define search parameters as below to find all Subbase Lots within our search area:

3. After selecting OK, you'll now be able to see all corresponding Entities in the Lot Markup view (shown in the background below).

Now that we Subbase Lots are linked in the Plan Markup view, we can customise how data is presented before we save our snapshot.

Summary of functionality below:

  • Find by Plan - draw search area on plan, and apply search filters
  • Select - select Geometry to then adjust properties or delete
  • Pan - click and drag navigation
  • Set Active - set as active Entity, allowing markup features
  • Find by Page - use search filters to find Entities on current page
  • Control Lines - show Control Lines
  • Snapping - snap cursor to existing points
  • Exports - export geometries in various filetypes
  • Entities Register - Entities (e.g. Lot, TR, Photo) are listed here. When selected, associated Geometries are listed in Geometries Register
  • Geometries Register - Geometries associated with selected Entities in Entities Register
  • Geometry Properties - format properties of geometry selected using Select
  • Plan Properties - format properties of Entities shown on Plan

Here, we can customise how we want to present our Plan Snapshot - modifying Properties to colour certain Lots to draw attention, turning visibility on/off, linking/unlinking objects etc.

We'll cover Properties in a later guide. For now, we'll just ensure all selected layers are visible (red box), and Is Linked selected beside the Entities you want this Plan Snapshot to be linked to (and accessible within that Entity's Related Items)(blue box), then click Save As New Snapshot.

Note: It's likely you want to show a bunch of Entities within this Plan Snapshot, but not create a Plan Snapshot that is linked in each of their Related Items areas. In this case, just unselect Is Linked, but keep Is Visible enabled.

4. The Plan Snapshot popup will appear (yellow box above). This confirms which objects will be visible and linked in this Plan Snapshot. Provide a descriptive name for the Plan Snapshot, then click OK.

Click Save & Close in the Lot Markup window.

After refreshing your Lot Register, you'll now see your saved Plan Snapshot in the Related Items section of any of the Entities that had Is Linked checked.

Open / Edit a Plan Snapshot

After a Plan Snapshot is created, it can be viewed within the Related Items of any entity that was linked to it when created.

  • To view the Plan Snapshot, double-click it within the Related Items. It will open within an image viewer, however is not editable. You can also right-click and select 'View in Map' to show
  • To edit the Plan Snapshot, right-click it it within the Related Items. Select Show in Plan Editor

In the ribbon the top there are a number of functions. Most are consistent with earlier buttons, but new functions to note are:

  • Lock Snapshot - this allows the Snapshot to be locked so it cannot be easily modified by another user without unlocking first
  • Update Snapshot Image - when a Snapshot is created, CivilPro creates an image of the viewwindow. This image is used in reports, and when just clicking on the Snapshot in Related Items. Updating it will update the image used for the above purposes for this Snapshot.
  • Include Lot / Test Request / Photo / Control Line - allows you to select specific records to show in the Snapshot
  • Properties - this is where you can modify colours, opacity, line thickness, font size etc. This can be done by specific Geometry, by Snapshot, or by Plan (will update settings for this Plan - when opened elsewhere in CivilPro)
