Introduction
In the CivilPro Web App, images can be imported and positioned in place on a Google Map - for use when marking up Lots, visualising adjacent Lots, or creating Lot Maps. These images could construction drawings, aerial images, or Geo-Referenced Images - exported from platforms such as Propeller.
Note: You can still create Work Lots without an Image Layer. This is optional for your project.
Instructions
1. Select your project, then under QA Setup, select 'Image Layers'.
2. On the top left corner of the screen, you can see that there are 2 options:
- Add Image – In image in PNG or JPG format. Once uploaded, user will move, scale, rotate it to the desired location on the underlying map (Google Maps)
- Add Geo-Referenced Image – uploading a Geo-Referenced image will place the image exactly where it should be – no adjustments are required. A 'Geo-Referenced Image' is a zip folder containing both a ‘world file’ (containing position data) and the image file. Hence, to be able to upload a Geo-Referenced Image, you must prepare a zip folder with 2 files in it:
- an image file (PNG, JPG/JPEG); and
- a world file in WGS84 Web Mercator coordinates (EPSG: 3857) or a world file + PRJ file detailing alternative coordinate system to WGS84 Web Mercator
To prepare a geo-referenced image file, you’ll need to use a GIS software such as ArcGIS Pro or QGIS to mark the control points on your image to known coordinates in WGS84 Web Mercator (or alternative, as detailed above).
Add an Image
3a. Before uploading an image, use the location finder to bring the area of focus into your screen. Enter the name of the area where you want to place your image e.g. Boonoo Boonoo, NSW and select it from the dropdown list.
3b. Next, click on the tab ‘Add Image’ and select your image file from the folder that you’ve saved it to and click ‘Open’.
3c. Once the image is uploaded, it’ll appear on your current viewing screen.
Click the ‘Enable Editing’ tab at the bottom left corner of the screen.
3d) Click on the image. The mini toolbar will appear on top of the image. You can use the option on the toolbar to:
- Scale Image
- Rotate
- Increase transparency
- Add border
(Note: Click on the corners to move and rotate).
Then once you have completed the adjustments, click ‘Save Changes’.
If you click ‘Cancel’, your changes will not be saved.
Add Geo-Referenced Image
4a. Once you have prepared your Geo-Referenced Image as described in step 2, click on the tab ‘Add Geo-Referenced Image’.
4b. Select the zip file from the folder that you saved it to and click ‘Open’.
4c. Once the image is uploaded, it’ll be placed on the map based on geo-referenced coordinates.
Note: The image has been greyed out due to confidentiality reasons.
4d. If it is necessary to adjust the position, click on ‘Enable Editing’ on the bottom left corner of the screen, then click on the image. A mini toolbar will appear on top of the image. You can use the option on the toolbar to:
- Scale Image
- Rotate
- Increase transparency
- Add border
Note: Click on the corners to move and rotate. Once you have completed the adjustments, click ‘Save Changes’.
If you click ‘Cancel’, your changes will not be saved.
5. You’ll also notice that once you enable editing, the buttons next to the images on the right panel will become active.
You can use these buttons to hide or unhide your image, delete them or move the layers to the front or back.
Note: You can click on the pencil icon to edit the image layer name.
To save any changes made, make sure you click ‘Save Changes’ after your adjustments.
