Area Codes

What is an Area Code?

An Area Code is an alphanumeric abbreviation (maximum 4 characters) which identifies different areas of the project. The codes are usually derived from the abbreviation of the area codes, for example:

• MCSB – Main Carriageway Southbound
• DL13 – Drainage Line 13
• BRRL – Bridge over River Lane

What is the purpose of Area Codes? 

The Area Codes will be used to identify your Work Lot and will form a part of your Lot ID when you create a Lot. An Area Code register is a register of all the area codes with their corresponding descriptions that identify the different areas of the project. 

How to Set Up?  

You can set up your work type register by adding them individually or importing them as CSV files, either via Cloud or Desktop (D).

Tips for Users : 

• The person or team who is setting up the area code register should be familiar with the areas of  the project and their location names. 
• Use a standard naming convention that makes it easy to relate the area code to its area description. 
• It is worthwhile to spend some time to create and compile a list of area codes that will help your team to identify the areas of work in your project. Keep it to 3 or 4 characters so it will be easy for you to communicate and identify the Lots in your project.  
• When creating a list of Area Codes, include an Area Code for general work to allow the recording of general, non-specific work. For example, use GNRL for general project works.
