What is a Work Type?
A Work Type is 2 to 8 character code used by CivilPro to classify the type of work done for a lot. The codes are usually derived from the abbreviation of the work description such as:
- SG for subgrade
- EL for electrical
- EX for excavation
- CP for concrete pour
What is the purpose of Work Type codes?
The Work Type codes will be used to identify your Work Lot and will form a part of your Lot ID when you create a Lot. In CivilPro, you can enter up to 8 characters ( min. 2 characters) as your Work Type code, however, by default only the first two characters will be included in your Lot Number.
Note: If you would like to customize your Lot Number, see Create Custom Lot Number Using Custom Registers.
A Work Type register is a register of all the work type codes with their corresponding descriptions that can be used for a project.
How to Set Up?
You can set up your work type register by adding them individually or importing them as CSV files, either via Cloud or Desktop (D).
Tips for Users:
- The person or team who is setting up the Work Type register should be familiar with the types of work to be done for the project.
- Use a standard naming convention that makes it easy to relate the two-letter code to its work description.
- If you do not currently have a list of work type codes, it is worthwhile to spend some time to create and compile a list of work types that are typically applied to your projects. It will save you a lot of time in the future as the same list can be imported to and reused in your new projects.
- For new subscribers, CivilPro comes with a list of work type codes that you can import from your REPO project to help you get started quickly.
- When creating a list of Work Types, include a miscellaneous Work Type to allow the recording of general, non-specific work. For example, add a Work Type MS with a description Miscellaneous for this purpose.
- Linking a Work Type to a Schedule Item allows CivilPro to automatically filter the Schedule Item list when adding quantities to a lot. The default for the Schedule Item list will be to show only those items relevant to that Lot’s Work Type.
- The links to ITPs are not made directly and cannot be edited. These links are calculated by CivilPro and are shown when there is a link from a Work Type to a Schedule Item, and from that same Schedule Item to an ITP. These links are used in the same way as the Schedule Item links when adding quantities, and also selecting Checklists.
