Create ITP

There are two key ways to create a new ITP in CivilPro:

  1. Create new ITP line items one-by-one in CivilPro; or
  2. Import ITP data from an Excel document, then format in CivilPro

There are benefits and drawbacks to each process, and we recommend reviewing each to decide which process is best for you / your ITPs.

Process 1 - Create new ITP line items in CivilPro one-by-one

This process is the most straightforward, and is covered in this guide

  • Benefits
    • Populate all ITP fields in one place in CivilPro
    • Maintain formatting from source document when using Copy + Paste
    • No data prep required in Excel
  • Drawbacks:
    • Manual copy / paste (ensure you use Alt-Tab to switch between ITP / CivilPro!)

Process 2 - Import ITP data from Excel

For those seeking time-savings for more complex / lengthy ITPs. Our Desktop interface may be slightly more intuitive for this process also - see video worked examples for Importing to Web and Importing to Desktop, and help article for Importing from CSV and Importing from Existing Projects.

  • Benefits:
    • Populate all ITP fields quickly
  • Drawbacks:
    • Requires data prep / organisation in Excel prior to import (removing merged cells, empty lines etc.)
    • Formatting (lists, new lines, bolding) is lost during import

4c. Note - you can also enter the details directly into the grid, however, be aware that there are multiple additional columns that aren't shown in the default 'ITP' view. To see all columns, select the view name 'ALL'. To see everything in the one place, it's best to open the line item by selecting 'Open' as below:

5.  Based on your ITP specifications, select the relevant 'Item Type' and 'Hold Point and Witness Point Check' from the dropdown lists. Enter the details in the following fields as required:

  • Reference Text (free text column that can be used as you wish, e.g. Construction Stage, Hold Point number etc.)
  • Description
  • Clause
  • Responsibility
  • Records
  • Method of Inspection

Report Options:

  • Included on Inspection Test Plan Report (ticked by default)

Caution: Please note that unticking the option for “Included on Inspection Test Plan Report” will lead to the items not reflected in your ITP report.

6. Click on the next tab 'Checklist Template' at the top. Tick the options as applicable.

Check Options Toggle:

  • Inspect Required (enables a 'Check' box on the Checklist that's produced from this ITP)
  • Verify Required (enables a 'Verify' box on the Checklist that's produced from this ITP)
  • Authority Required (cenables an 'Approval' box on the Checklist that's produced from this ITP, and allow you to raise external Approval requests)
  • Included on Checklist (ticked by default)

Override description for checklist (default to 'No'):

Enabling this will allow you to create different text for the Checklist than is shown in the ITP description (useful for adding short, concise details on the Checklist for site use). This can also be setup from the grid view, where you can position the 'ITP Description' and the 'Checklist text' columns side-by-side to compare text in ITP vs. Checklist.

  • when text is the same on both ITP and Checklist, the 'Checklist text' cell in the grid will have a grey background and the 'Diff QVC text' column with have a tick
  • if the text in the ITP and Checklist cells is different, and you want to revert back, either delete text in the Checklist text cell (and it'll auto-populate with ITP Description text) or select the line item, open Action on Selection panel, and select 'Revert Text'

7. Click on the next tab at the top 'Test'.  This is where you can add a test if applicable. Please refer to the article “Add Tests to ITP”. In this example, we are not adding a test.

Click 'Save' to proceed.

7. You can also create a duplicate of the inspection item if required by clicking on 'Duplicate' at the top right corner. This creates a duplicate, however requires you to update all fields (as they'll be copied from the previous line item).

As suggested in Step 4B, if you've already created blank line items for all ITP steps, just click Save here and open the next blank line item.

After you've added all line items into your ITP, it's time to Add Tests to the ITP (optional)
